Frequently Asked Questions

Over the years we’ve compiled a ton of great information and resources to answer frequent safari questions and help enhance your trip. This section is updated often with new material as our guests make inquiries about traveling with us. Please feel free to browse the links below or download our comprehensive handbook as a guide to ensure you are fully prepared for your adventure in Tanzania.

ITS features four main accommodation types, primarily in the deluxe and luxury price ranges:

  1. Permanent Tented Camp (PTC): Remains in one location year-round, typically featuring en-suite tents on platforms, running water, flush toilets, and sometimes amenities like swimming pools.
  2. Semi-Permanent Tented Camp (SPTC): Moves seasonally (e.g., between the Northern and Southern Serengeti) in anticipation of the migration. They are more elaborate than mobile camps but use safari style bucket showers and chemical toilets, and generally lack amenities like pools or Internet.
  3. Private Mobile Camp (PMC): Set up exclusively for a specific group in a reserved campsite. They are 100% private and fully serviced by dedicated staff. They use chemical toilets and safari-style showers, offering the highest level of authenticity and solitude.
  4. Permanent Lodge: Brick and mortar style properties, usually larger, offering 24-hour electricity, fully plumbed bathrooms, telephones, and multiple amenities such as spas, gyms, and swimming pools.

The Loliondo Game Controlled Area is not governed by national park rules. Staying here allows clients to enjoy activities such as night game drives (using a spotlight and a Maasai tracker) and walking safaris.

To confirm a reservation, travelers must submit:

  1. A signed, completed Safari Booking Application.
  2. A non-refundable deposit of \$900 per Person (including minors).
  3. A signed Travel Release.
  4. A signed Medical Questionnaire and Release.
  5. A signed Travel Insurance Acknowledgement Form.

The balance of the safari price is due not later than 90 days prior to departure.

ITS strongly urges all clients to purchase a comprehensive travel insurance plan valid for the entire duration of their trip, covering events like trip cancellation, delay, lost baggage, emergency accident, illness, and evacuation. A completed Travel Insurance Acknowledgment Form is a condition of travel. If a traveler declines to purchase insurance, they must sign a form accepting full responsibility for any loss or expense that would have been covered.

  • Health: Participation requires you to be in generally good health. All guests must notify ITS of any medical problems and/or related dietary restrictions well before departure. Anti-malaria precautions are recommended and are the sole responsibility of the client.
  • Wild Animals: Safaris may take you into close contact with wild animals, and while attacks are rare, no safari can guarantee that incidents will not occur. Many lodges and camps are not fenced, and wildlife moves freely. Clients must always follow safety instructions from the staff regarding movement to and from tents and during game activities.
  • Passports/Visas: Passports must be valid for at least 6 months past your departure date and must have at least two blank Visa pages per country, per entry. Travelers should be aware that Tanzania has an Electronic Visa Application System requiring visas to be purchased online prior to arrival.

The ideal time to go on a Tanzanian safari differs for every individual and depends completely on what you want to see and do, as wildlife concentrations are highly seasonal.
